Dalit Shahar

Dalit Shahar is an Israeli artist whose work is characterized by primal, naïve, childlike figures, freely drawn imagery, expressed through a vivid, fresh, and uninhibited use of color.

Her paintings explore identity, relationships, motherhood, and family life, often looking at the ways intimate connections shape who we are.

Shahar studied fashion design at ‘Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art ‘, where she later became a lecturer in the Fashion Design Department. Her background in fashion and textile can still be seen in her attention to color, texture, and materials.

Embroidery and thread often become part of the painted surface. Sometimes the thread acts like a drawn line; elsewhere, stitches, knots and loose ends add texture and movement to the work.

Shahar describes her figures as instinctive, fragile, and unrefined, but also strong and fully present. They represent something basic and human beneath the polished surface of modern life.
